You have to love any story about a business segment that is growing in today’s climate!
I just returned from a show in FL regarding residential multi units dwellings, Fl has a few of those – LOL! The days before the show I visited 17 large properties and the night before I met with the owners of an insurance agency who insured a lot of commercial property bot in FL and NJ, high-rise multi-umit would be part of that as well. Me being me I start with my observations of the buildings I toured and asked about “business interruption” and Disaster Recovery related to the building/customers they insure.
I’m still taken back when people who advise other people on what to do where there businesses don’t really know what they are talking about?
Every answer is about relocating the workforce or having data in the cloud which are all great ideas and people really think these things through to the 9th degree. When we get to generators I get the standard “it cost too much for a permanent generator BUT there were no rental generators available during Sandy so I’m torn what to do?”
When I ask what would you do have you had a rental generator, “hook it up of course!”. Do you know where or how to hook it up, do you know how much cable you need, where are you going to get fuel, etc, etc. I then started on the building we’re in has a chiller plant how would replace that in an emergency – I could on and on but you get the picture!
After all is said and done very few people include anything in Disaster Recovery for these items – there were lots of generators available during Sandy and there was plenty of diesel fuel available you just have to know who to call – here’s the pitch
